  • Developing Social/Emotional Skills Through Esports

    Funded Apr 8, 2022

I no longer teach at JA Fair Prep, but one of my good friends has taken over my classes. I was able to use this equipment for a limited time last year, and my students LOVED being able to engage with students from across the country in eSports tournaments! We competed in multiple Rocket League challenges, and while we didn't win, students were able to learn a lot about the hardware, software, and mental attitude needed for success.

As you can see, Mrs. White's classes are also able to use the gaming equipment for classes and eSports activities. I know that great things are continuing to happen, and that this equipment will be used for years to come! Thank you again for your donation to the LRSD, and your dedication to the advancement of K-12 education. We couldn't make it happen without people like you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stone

  • 3D Printing: Bringing Engineering Designs to Life

    Funded Oct 27, 2021

Thank you SO MUCH for your generosity and support of my classroom! The 3D printer has been a big hit in my classes. Students worked hard and had a great time learning the engineering design process by redesigning school furniture, creating models in Tinkercad, and 3D printing their work. This was a great addition to the PLTW curriculum.

Additionally, we have been able to print VEX parts to meet our every day needs. This helps reduce the cost to our school budget, making the longevity of our program more viable. We've even printed an enigma machine to use with a cybersecurity unit from Cyber.org!

I hope that you enjoy the pictures of our work. Thank you again for your kindness, generosity, and support. Please know that your contribution is valued, and that it is helping students discover and experiment with technology and skills that they would not have access to otherwise.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Stone

My students are already great engineers. They love to collaborate and build every single class period. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our VEX robotics parts will not be available until November (at the earliest). My students are on fire for engineering - and that is a flame that I do not want to see go out because of something beyond their control. A 3D printer in our classroom will bring life to my students' designs. It will also give us the ability to print replacement parts, should we need additional robotics pieces in the future. I am teaching the next generation of thinkers, tinkerers, and problem solvers. I know that they are up to any challenge I place in front of them, all they need are the supplies to bring their solutions to life.
