For the last year and a half, students have been out of my classroom and out of the habit of book love. Pre-pandemic, students read everyday in my classroom. They worked on their comprehension, their speed, and their endurance. During hybrid and distance learning, there was virtually no way to do this work with fidelity. The last thing we wanted to do was to turn kids off of reading. NOW, however, we are slated to be full-force back in the classroom. Students need contemporary books that reflect their lives and get them excited about reading again.
