I try to cultivate an extensive library in my classroom both for independent and group reading. My kids love the time they get to have independent reading and they treat their books with love and respect. I want to get us some more class copies of books for our group readings and discussions and I think "The House of the Scorpion" would be a cool, interesting read for all my students. I think this book will be fun for them, both because it is a sci-fi adventure and because the main characters are Hispanic, like many of my students, so they can feel represented in the literature we are reading.
