  • Chemistry - It's What Matters!

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Because of your help, my students have conducted multiple hands-on experiments this year. In the "It's Elemental!" lab, students investigated the properties of metals and nonmetals. In one photo, students collaborate to test an element's electrical conductivity.

Thank you for helping my students stay safe! All of the gloves seen in the photos were purchased with your help. Lastly, the final photo shows two students modeling nuclear fusion using macaroni, marshmallows, and beans. As the images indicate, the materials purchased through this project facilitated meaningful collaboration in my class.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rooney

  • Light Up My Life: High School Spectroscopy Investigation

    Funded Aug 2, 2022

Thank you so much for making our "You Light Up My Life - Spectroscopy Lab" possible. Students worked together to look at the spectral lines of different light sources. Their understanding of spectroscopy as it relates to our astronomy unit would not be possible without your help. Engagement and participation were outstanding during this lab!

The students were amazed by the spectroscopes' ability to break up light into its component parts. They asked thought-provoking questions like "why does each element have a unique emissions spectrum?" and "can we look at the emission spectrum of the flashlights on our phones?"

As we learn about atomic structure and electrons, students will understand spectroscopy even more deeply.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rooney
