Many students would benefit from sensory tools in the learning environment. Sensory tools are a great resource for students with special needs such as sensory processing disorder, anxiety, or autism but they are also beneficial for students to use when they are experiencing a strong or overwhelming emotion. These tools can help calm their minds and bodies so they are able to process with an adult and resume their learning. The materials will be used in classrooms in the teacher's calming corners and also in the social work office where many kids come to de-escalate. Today we are seeing more and more kids come to school with anxiety, stress, and dysregulation. In order to help kids be successful learners we must first address their emotional needs. We are often not given the tools in order to create spaces that allow kids to still be in the instructional environment but also take a calming break. By donating to my project, you will help give students the tools to find emotional regulation and balance and therefore help them be better learners in the classroom.
