Utilizing these materials in my classroom will allow the students to feel comfortable and successful in their learning. As a first-year middle school special education teacher, I have found that a lot of my students need extra supplies, repetition, and manipulatives to understand a concept. They have shown more confidence when they are able to complete the concept hands-on. Having anchor charts is important for EVERY student. I want to make sure that I fill my room with an appropriate amount of academic posters for them to refer to on a daily basis. Being able to repeat the same concept several times is important for students. I am excited to use the math facts electronic game as a warm-up, brain break, or to practice old skills if they need it! Fidgets are essential for several students. I have observed that students stay on task more often when they are given a fidget to handle while doing their work. I am so excited to let my students choose which fidget they want to use every day. Lastly, being a special education teacher, organizing is key. I am looking forward to putting all of my IEP documentation for my students in the pocket file folder, as well as placing copies of handouts and resources in my hanging file folder.
