Literacy for Everyone!
Funded Oct 27, 2021Six receiving this generous donation of books, I have been able to set up a small class library. Students are reading books for leisure, even if they cannot totally read. It is creating a sense of independence and a healthy relationship with books again.
For my moderately disabled students, things are often hard for them. By having books that are colorful and simple, they can find joy in reading and will do so during independent time and free work.
Additionally, we have used some of the texts in full class lessons and worked on things like comprehension and answering wh questions”

Making Money Count
Funded Sep 24, 2021When we first opened the magnetic money, students said " wow Mr. Tyler that is big." It was clear that the excitement would help draw my students into increasing their financial literacy.
One notable use of the materials has been the progress a particular student has made with adding coins. He has been working hard to count by 5s for nickels and then 1s for pennies, and add them. He will often count the pennies as nickles. I have seen so much progress and as a self-contained SPED teacher, it is these small amounts of progress that really show us that they are learning.
We will really get a chance to use these materials next month as we begin our money unit and we are all so excited! Thank you again for your generous contribution and role you played in our classroom!”

Funded Sep 23, 2021Since receiving your donations, I have integrated the arts and music into our class and the response has been outstanding. The first thing we did was explore! I took out the piano and the kids got to play freely. They moved, hummed along, and sang, all while making sounds using the keys. The sheer joy in just having access to the music was amazing. Next, we implemented a drum circle where we drum in between math problems. The kids love it and are learning while having fun. As the holidays rolled around we learned jingle bells on the boom whackers and they really impressed me. It showed that music is powerful and made such amazing energy in the class. These amazing things were just the instruments. We also used the paint and canvases many times to create artwork that worked with the curriculum to make it engaging. With your help we were able to really be a music and art-driven room and to be honest, everyone is jealous! Thank you so much!”

Mr. Tyler
