  • Sensory Items, Timers, and Furniture Oh My: Autism Accessible Classroom

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

We all need a break sometimes. The items included in this donation allows my students to have a dedicated break space with fidgets, bean bags, and more.

By creating a nurturing environment, I can help meet their sensory needs which in turn helps them be the most present for learning. These items are often out of reach as they are costly. With the generous donations of all of you, I have seen students have more success with self-regulation and overall calmness.

While some items are still in the wrappers, my classroom is stocked with what we need for this break room corner, giving us the opportunity to replace broken or damaged items when need be.

    Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Tyler

I have always called art the great equalizer. Students, no matter their ability, can make art. For kids with autism, the core subjects are sometimes out of reach, or something they struggle with. Arts give them an avenue to have fun, and create in a way that their peers do. The arts help give a voice to students who struggle to use or find theirs. Communication is a known difficulty for many students with Autism and having an outlet to communicate emotions is so important. Oh- and they are great learning tools!
