As a first year teacher at a new school in a new state, I was greeted with an empty classroom on my first day of planning for this upcoming school year. While I was able to scrounge up some classroom basics such as tables, desks, and chairs, I am in great need of classroom essentials such as posters, dry erase boards, alternative seating, and organizational supplies that while support my students and me for the upcoming school year. In teaching a self-contained second grade classroom, I must have enough classroom supplies to support my students' engagement in the subject areas of Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies on whole class, small group, and individual level. My school system specializes in differentiated classroom instruction so equipment such as chart paper, the number line, the class set of dry erase boards and markers will greatly support my ability to offer personalized instruction to students.
My classroom will be servicing students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP). So, equipment such as the alternative seating balance ball chairs will be a big help in supporting students who struggle to stay on task and in their own space during instructional time.
Organizational supplies such as the Chair Pockets, Storage Cubes, and Labels will allow my classroom to be neat, organized, and safe for students. I want my students to be able to safely navigate the classroom in order to find the tools, supplies, and resources needed for their learning. Within any classroom being organized is essential for creating positive learning outcomes, so when it comes to storage, I believe the more, the merrier. With this year being our official return to in-person instruction, I want to make sure my students start the year off with safe, comfortable, and stimulating learning environment.
