Finding Safety In A "Calm Corner"
Funded Sep 15, 2021As a first-year school psychology intern, it is my goal to participate in school-wide prevention efforts to improve mental and behavioral health for all students. Establishing the Calm Corner in my school has allowed me to do just this, thus creating a positive impact on my students' well-being.
While the project is still in its early stages of implementation, the expected impact includes increased productivity, reduced behavior concerns, and improved well-being. Spending time at the Calm Corner allows students to fulfill their sensory needs, relieve anxiety, and develop new coping strategies. I am currently working on planning the logistics of this space, including creating "Calm Corner passes" and collaborating with school staff to set up a plan, establish rules, and collect data.
I am very grateful for your contributions towards this project. I can already visualize the short- and long-term benefits of this initiative! I am excited to have been provided the opportunity to support our students with these amazing tools, and I am already thinking of ways to expand on this idea in the near future! Thank you once again!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Lulla
