During Covid, our students had fewer opportunities for participating in hands-on science learning. Teacher demonstrations of experiments are not as effective as putting the materials in student's hands so that they can do the experiments themselves. The wood balls, glass marbles, and steel balls will give the students opportunities to learn more about mass. The heat lamps and bulbs will be used for heat transfer experiments. The weather station will be part of our science unit on weather and will allow our students to use the equipment that they learn about. Beakers, liquid crystal sheets and petri dishes will all be used for science experiments. Sticky notes, clay and sticky pads will be used to record experiment results. When a student has the materials in their own hands so they can see how the world works, understanding the world around them is so much easier. With these supplies that we can use again and again, students will be able to focus on scientific processes and practice the scientific method by doing experiments with groups in their classroom and setting up experiments of their own. Some material in this project will be used to help students focus. Those include the balance cushions and the figit toys.
