Move it, Learn it!
Funded Sep 17, 2021Many thanks for contributing to sensory-motor integration activities with the equipment funded. My class consists of ten students with autism, grades 2nd through 4th. Each student has various special challenges. However, when they saw the obstacle course I set up when entering the classroom they were delighted to participate. The obstacle course along with cards with specific vocabulary contributed to integrating all their senses along with an understanding of vocabulary specific to the movement.
At present, I have integrated our class with a second-grade general education class for parachute activities every Tuesday of the school week. The teacher and I have buddied up students together for the activity. Besides integrating sensory-motor abilities, we are also teaching the general education population the abilities along with an awareness of the communication challenges our students may have. This has been incredibly successful for all students!
Recently I have now buddied up with a fifth-grade general education class at our school to continue to integrate the obstacle course materials to develop vocabulary along with modeling from peers on how to complete specific movements along with the ability to follow given direction. We begin this on Friday, January 21, 2022.
Play with the equipment funded has brought together an awareness of the abilities my students have with an educational opportunity for the general education population to understand students with special challenges.
Once again, thank you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Gina
