  • Fueling Futures

    Funded Jan 28, 2025

Thank you for your recent donation to help provide nourishing snacks and meals to the children at Nettleton Learning Center. The director, social worker, other staff members and I have been working to end hunger in our community starting with our building. Your kindness will help us continue our mission.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Jessica

  • Account Handlers

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

Thank you for your donations! Finding creative ways to include financial literacy into current curriculum that don't call for more time or explicit instruction is crucial because teachers may be reluctant to dedicate time to the subject or may view it as just another duty to complete in an already hectic day.

With your help, I can easily include financial literacy in my lessons in the following ways:

-I try using dimes or nickels to learn counting by fives instead of the standard base ten blocks.

    - I've read aloud from books that contain financial terminology. Financial literacy can be strengthened only by reading books that employ financial terminology and give instances of responsible or reckless money management.

    - I use coins and cash to help my students maintain track during math warm-ups. For example, we use pennies to symbolize single days, dimes to represent tens, or a dollar bill to symbolize the hundredth day, and so on.

Although not brand-new, gamification has grown in acceptance and popularity as a valid method of imparting practical knowledge and skills to students of all ages. I can hold my students' attention for a lot longer than I can with worksheets alone, especially if I use board games like Drive Thru Menu Math and Money Bingo. Thank you again for providing my students with the opportunity to learn more about managing money!”

  • Flexible Seating for All!

    Funded Aug 10, 2023

Your willingness to help me provide flexible seating areas for students with special needs is greatly appreciated! Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.

An uncomfortable student, is a distracted and unproductive student. Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Traditional desks can make students territorial or possessive over their space and supplies. Flexible seating encourages students to share both. And, it encourages them to take turns in different locations and with different seating options.

These are just a few examples of how your donations make a difference in my classroom!”

  • Every Day I’m Calculatin’

    Funded Mar 25, 2022

Manipulatives help students learn by allowing them to move from concrete experiences to abstract reasoning. The use of manipulatives helps students hone their mathematical thinking skills. By giving students concrete ways to compare and operate on quantities, such manipulatives as pattern blocks, tiles, and cubes can contribute to the development of well-grounded, interconnected understandings of mathematical ideas. To gain a deep understanding of mathematical ideas, students need to be able to integrate and connect a variety of concepts in many different ways. Thank you for giving us the ability to use manipulatives, math games, and other essentials we need to learn math in our classroom.”

  • Mad Scientists

    Funded Mar 25, 2022

Science in the special education classroom can be one of the most interesting subjects to teach and engage students. You can do a lot of fun things with teaching science in special education, from nature walks to in-class experiments. It can also be one of the toughest areas to teach effectively for students with severe disabilities for a variety of reasons.

One of the areas that many of the special education teachers I work with have struggled with is introducing science concepts, typically drawn from the state curriculum or alternate / extended standards, to students with significant special needs. Most states now require that K-12 students have goals in their IEPs that address the state standards through either modifying grade level standards or applying alternative or extended standards specifically designed for special education.

Science is one of the areas that are particularly addressed in some states and there are specific skills that have to be mastered to pass the alternate assessment. Science teachers must assure that we clearly know the standard and what is required–because it's not always completely evident what specifically an individual student has to demonstrate to show mastery.”

  • Society Changers

    Funded Mar 25, 2022

Social studies is a discipline that includes humanities such as geography, history, and political science. The main goal of teaching social studies is to teach students to become good citizens. We are living in a diverse society — one that requires knowledge of social studies to succeed. With a social studies background, children become adults that can participate civilly in our democratic society.

Social studies connect students with the real world. In today's interconnected world, students must be prepared to interact with people of all cultures and communities, and social studies prepares them for this.

All children become something when they graduate and no matter what that something is, they will need to interact with others from different backgrounds. Students with special needs, especially, need to know how society works, and how people work in a society in order for it all to work once they enter society after graduation. With your help, we now have materials to make social studies more interesting to our students.”

  • TPT Addiction Awareness Club

    Funded Mar 25, 2022

With your help, I was able to buy ready to use materials for my special needs students. This saved me a lot of time which in turn allowed me to help support students with different ability levels. Teaching multiple subjects for students and making sure each individual student receives assignments on their varying skill level is very difficult to keep up with. You guys saved the day by donating $400 for me to use on Teachers Pay Teachers. I was able to buy task cards, literacy activities and so much more!”

  • Mrs. Jessica's Literacy Corner

    Funded Mar 25, 2022

I believe that a classroom library is the heartbeat of a teacher's environment. It is the window into an educator's own personality, and it reflects the importance of literacy in the classroom. I believe that every teacher -- no matter what subject he or she teaches -- should have one.

With your help I was able to provide access to books in our classes with the same differentiated approach that we bring to any other lesson, assessment, or activity for our special needs students.

I have stickers on every book to represent 4 levels of reading. That way, even a struggling student can select and return books correctly.”

  • Alternative Seating for Special Education

    Funded Jan 21, 2022

Words cannot express the gratitude my students feel now that they have more comfortable seating! Some students have difficulties keeping their feet, bodies and hands still. These seats are providing them the opportunity to choose what will help them focus more! In addition to helping their focus, you helped us get batteries for our calculators. The largest class size I have is 10 students. We were sharing 5 calculators between all of our students. With your help, we were able to replace the batteries in the rest of our calculators and no longer have to share in one class period. Thank you for helping our class meet our goal!”

Hello! Thank you for taking the time to review and consider my requests for special education donations. I work with 7th and 8th grade special education students and need help providing them with alternative seating in the classroom. Alternative seating will assist my students by using using textures and movement to engage them in learning. I have also included special batteries for our calculators in the classroom. Right now we have 5 functioning calculators and the rest need their batteries replaced. I see so much potential in my students this year, we just need a little help supporting their learning with these important tools.
