Having Fun While Learning About Money

Funded Sep 17, 2021

Thank you so much for donating the materials needed to help my students learn about money. My students were really excited when they saw all of our new math manipulatives and games we got to use.

During my money unit, students used the magnetic coins which helped them learn how to identify each coin and dollar by it's name and amount. Students also used those magnetic coins and flash cards to help them learn how to count coins. Students learned different strategies to help them count different coin combinations. We used the other games for station activities. During these activities, students rotated around the room to each learning station and practiced their money skills.

I also set up a classroom store where students got to spend play money. Each week, students had an opportunity to earn money through learning tasks (chores) and were able to spend that money the following week in the classroom store. We set up the cash register, where one student would accept everyone's money. Each student had to add up the amount of money they were spending and count it out to the cashier. If they needed change back, the cashier was responsible for providing them with the correct change.

All of my students really loved and enjoyed all the money manipulatives and games that we received. I want to personally thank each person who donated to my project. Your generosity help all of my students become successful at counting money and I greatly appreciate your donation!”

With gratitude,

Ms. Heather
