  • Pequeños Lectores

    Funded Aug 31, 2021

This project has given my students the opportunity to be exposed to a wide variety of diverse books in Spanish. Literacy Block is a bog part of our day. Students love choosing books and find a corner around the classroom to read with their partners. We all have enjoyed reading some of the books together during our read alouds like "El monstruo rosa" We have worked on writing projects based on the book "Como atrapar una estrella" in which students had to come up with different and creative ways on how to catch a star. They love playing different characters from the books Elephant and Piggy.

All these beautiful moments have been possible only thanks to your donations. And we will keep creating magic!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Irene

Our school moved to a Spanish Immersion Model in Kindergarten last year during virtual model. The classroom which has been assigned to our little readers was previously an English Only classroom hence there are no books in Spanish for us to read and the school has limited availability of this important resource. We need a wide and diverse range of stories with a diverse set of characters so all of our students feel represented. We need books about the first days of school (now more than ever), emotions, real heroes who children can look up to, biographies of people who changed the world, strong children from other cultures who have overcome difficulties, boys and girls like them who come from different cultures, backgrounds, families. books about insects, animals, science. . Using these books, will help my students to thrive in the bilingual and multicultural setting they are growing up. Reading all these books will also help us increase our vocabulary in Spanish and improve their listening and speaking skills in this language.
