Promoting a Passion for Reading

Funded Sep 3, 2021

Dearest Donors:

I wanted to express my sincerest thank yous to each and every one of you who donated for my class project "A Passion for Reading" last year. This year has been filled with challenges still from COVID disruptions in my class, however, I believe that the passion for reading is a skill that has and will continue to benefit my population of students.

We have been reading Because of Mr. Terrupt as a whole class project and I can see the engagement that this activity is bringing into my student's daily routine. They are enjoying the dynamics between the characters and how each of them really is like the students in our own classroom. I enjoy seeing how they can identify themselves within the characters and how they are appreciating how they can apply what they are reading into their real world situations.

Last week as 5th graders, we experienced CAMP at THOMAS where our students had the chance to learn curriculum in a more interactive way by building camping experiences as we learned about organisms in their environments. We were able to seamlessly incorporate Because of Mr. Terrupt in our outdoor experiences because they were discussing plants and what a botanist is in one of the chapters. Students were able to immediately make the connections between the book and the building a terrarium activity we were doing for that day.

I just want to thank you immensely for giving me the opportunity to encourage a passion for reading with my students. A passion that I strongly believe will only enrich their lives as they get ready to move on the middle school in the fall. I hope you enjoy some of the pictures of our CAMP at Thomas where we read one of the books you kindly donated to my class.

Sincerely,

Jeannie Gill”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Gill
