Mr. G's New 4th Grade Library
Funded Aug 30, 2021Thank you for supporting our classroom library and most importantly the students. Literature is an important part of our day and routine we have worked hard to incorporate 20 minutes of self-sustained reading within the classroom and at home. The students naturally gravitated towards the new library books and started reading them. During the readings the students fill out a chart that breaks down the book and it's characters and the plot. It's helping the students become critical thinkers and helping them with their inferencing skills.
Reading occurs within every subject. We begin our day with ELA and have a read aloud daily that helps introduce new skills the students will be learning and new vocabulary. We first look at the vocabulary that is unfamiliar to us and make connections to those newly introduced words so that our language develops. After our story and some discussion the students have to select a similar book based on genre/theme and put those newly learned skills to practice.
The students have enjoyed reading the new books. I can't wait to create a new book tasting when we return from Christmas break were the students can get a feel for all the new books. I currently have a few students writing their own book reports and creating projects based on their readings. My class and I are forever grateful to everyone who helped this project come true.”
With gratitude,
Mr. M Garcia
