Reading Rules!
Funded Apr 9, 2025Thank you so much for contributing to this project. We will be embarking on our 2nd year of our schoolwide Battle of the Books and encouraging our kids to find a love of reading. The books provided will be in each of the English teachers' classrooms. The seating will be provided to students as an alternative to sitting at a desk. I am so excited to get kids excited about reading!”

Funded Aug 31, 2024Thank you so much for your donations to this project. It has been fun to see students gravitating towards these books. They are reading them and they are enjoying them. In my classroom, students have 10-15 minutes of independent reading time each day. This is a sacred time in our room where we are quiet and focused in on our books. Students get to choose what they read for this time. We then discuss different things like grammar, sentence structure, summarizing, what we like, quote analysis, vocabulary, and illustrations.
I have noticed more students seeing themselves in the stories and connecting to the themes. When I previewed "Iveliz Explains it All" to the class - after they heard the first chapter - there were audible gasps and comments like "That's so relatable." It's especially exciting to see some of the reluctant readers gravitate and LIKE a book. Thank you again for contributing to our classroom library. It means so much to me and them.”
