During this year, many of our students' families have lost financial stability during the pandemic. At the same time, children have had vital supports including school, health care services, and other community supports interrupted by the pandemic. And many have experienced or witnessed increased racism during the pandemic. The stress created by Covid-19 pandemic has weighed on our student population heavily. I want to help students cope with their emotions so they can perform better in school. I’m want to engage students in yoga as a means of releasing stress and increasing their health. Experts say exercise is the best thing we can do for coping with the stress of Covid-19. Exercise releases endorphins, which relieve stress and also channels out adrenaline when frustration builds up. My goal is to enhance students' physical activity time and lower their stress by providing yoga classes before and after school. By taking part in yoga classes, kids will learn better and their behavior will improve because they will be less hyperactive. Research suggests that promoting movement and activity in children can help increase memory, perception, language, attention, emotion, and even decision making. Therefore, taking part in yoga will also help students perform better in school.
