  • Communication is Possible With the Help of Pocketalk

    Funded Sep 16, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting me and helping my Newcomer and other MLL students with your financial help. I am so excited to be able to get the Pocketalk Plus so my multi-language learners will have a greater voice throughout their school day - in class, at lunch, and on the playground.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ayer

  • Scholastic Magazines Get Students Learning!

    Funded Aug 29, 2021

Thank you for funding the Scholastic News and DynaMath subscriptions for this school year. My inclusion special ed 7th-grade students are low readers and unenthusiastic about reading. Two of my lower readers have begun to ask to read the Scholastic magazines each week.

One student is a low-confidence reader who enjoyed the Scholastic News 5/6 articles about Indigenous peoples. He asked to take the issue home to share with his family.

Another student is in a separate program for students with emotional and behavioral disabilities. She routinely refuses to engage in any classroom activity or project. However, once she saw the stories and activities in DynaMath she was hooked! She carries the latest issue around with her throughout the day, reading and talking about the content. She was surprised when I suggested she take it home to show her aunt. She was afraid of losing her copy so I told her I would save a copy for her at school.

Thank you so very much for providing the funding needed to make these learning and growth opportunities possible for my 7th Grade special ed students this year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ayer

These Scholastic Magazines will be used by my students to practice their reading and problem solving skills within the Special Ed classroom. They will use the stories to practice decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills, as well as to discuss using new vocabulary. Students will build background knowledge and satisfy their curiosity with stories from around the world and in their backyards. I have requested a class subscription to Scholastic News, DynaMath, and Science Spin magazines. Students will develop literacy and language skills at home when sharing the magazines and stories with siblings and other family members. Scholastic magazines - building brighter futures one magazine at time!
