  • Art-room has amazing Natural Light, now in need of POSTERS/SOUND

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Wow, you all are insanely awesome. Teaching is hard enough, but with these posters and visuals to put on the walls, with the speakers to provide the correct vibe for when we are creating our stories, with the book to properly allow for self-guided art history, there is beauty and learning ahead of us HUZZAH, YOU ALL ROCK SO MUCH!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Mauk

  • Cardinal Students Need Clay

    Funded Oct 17, 2021

Holy MOLY MOLLLEEEEE MOOLLEEEYYY! The kids loved working with Clay so much. IN fact we have another project in the works involving homemade Ice cream BOWLS!!!

The day the clay was delivered was so much fun because they all got to see the fancy red clay and then they all got to touch the clay and that produced many an excited squeal of excitement.

The coolest part, though, is the kids are now organizing a fundraiser including handmade ice cream bowls. NONE OF THIS would've been possible without DONORS CHOOSE. We would have still been using crayons and markers.

    VIVA DC!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Mauk

Our Artists want to learn about clay and pottery and to throw on the wheel and to use "the big scary OVENS" (kilns). Our classes and projects are primarily 2-d so the ceramic unit is going to be AWESOME! A lot of my students thrive with drawing and drafting and painting, others do not and need to work with their hands. And sometimes they verbalize that they feel like "FAILED" "ARTISTS". OH NO! Having them throw on the wheel and make a pinch pot or mug that they can use or gift to a friend or parent will increase their confidence like 10000 times and thus, they will be happier and better school citizens and (future) world leaders. This is the official standard we will use as our guiding principle for this project. Advanced art 8th VA:Cr1.8.1 Document early stages of the creative process visually and/or verbally in traditional or new media. Ceramics is such a process oriented medium so it will be fun to watch the kids organize their thoughts throughout the art-making!
