My students complete Novel Projects for my class every quarter and I ask them to choose a different book each time, so I need a wide variety of high-interest texts. The books themselves will be added to my classroom library and students will be allowed to take them home to read over the year. The scanner will help me catalogue my books on Bookshare, which is much more efficient than having them use a sign-out sheet. In a world of information overload, I want my students to remember the simple (yet powerful) joy in simply sitting down and reading. I've seen the joy sparked in students' faces when they get their hands on the right book, and I hope to share more moments like these with students. This is my second year of teaching, so I know my library has a long way to go, but the sooner I can build it up, the better!
