  • A Cozy Carpet for Our Classroom

    Funded Sep 14, 2023

The carpet has been a wonderful addition to our classroom, and we are so thankful for your generosity! Classroom decor is something that makes a learning environment more inviting, and our new carpet certainly does the job.

Students are excited when we give them the opportunity to work on the carpet. The carpet is the perfect size for a small group, they have ample space to work and collaborate comfortably. In addition to it being comfortable, the bright colors really make the space pop! This only further encourages students to want to work in this space now.

Thank you again for your donation, my students and I are so thankful and know how fortunate we are for people like you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sheer

  • Books for 2nd Grade Bookies!

    Funded May 5, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. Our students have a high interest in fiction series books, and look forward to reading every day in school. Every week our students are allowed to "shop" for new books on their reading level. This is a time for them to pick books that are of interest to them and books they can use during our reading lessons.

In our reading lessons, students use their independent reading books to learn important skills like retelling, predicting and inferring. Retelling helps our students to hang onto details of the story, like the problem and the character feelings. Predictions are a great way for students to show their comprehension of the story. By making a strong prediction they are showing a clear understanding of the story. Inferring is a higher order skill that requires students to think beyond the pages of the story and think about why a character is acting or feeling a certain way.

These books are essential for building strong reading skills, and 2nd grade is an important year for students as a reader. Thanks to your generous donation, our students are excited to read these new books!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sheer

  • It’s Bin Too Long Since We’ve Had New Bins!

    Funded Aug 31, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity in donating to this project for my class. These new bins have made book shopping in our class both smoother and safer. Students are able to safely select their books and with these new bins we can hold more books. When the bins arrived in our classroom the students were thrilled. When we unpacked them they all cheered and were happy to help swap the old bins with the new ones. They love the bright colors and were excited to help us create labels for the bins. Our classroom library is so inviting and promotes good reading habits for the students. Thank you again for your donation!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sheer

Currently our students shop for new books from our classroom library once a week. It’s one of their favorite things to do. Depending on our unit of study they may borrow nonfiction books, poetry books, series books, or a favorite fiction story. The books our organized by level and genre. Currently the bins that hold our fiction books are cracked and falling apart. We notice the students don’t borrow books from these bins despite some great titles being in them! Who wants to pull out an old cracking bin that the books are likely to fall out of? I’m sure replacing these old bins (we purchased them from the dollar store six years ago!) with sturdy neon bins will attract the students to borrow from them!
