Strengthening My Mind Though Managing My Emotions !!
Funded Oct 21, 2021My project "Strengthening my Mind Though Managing my Emotions "was a success. My students are always looking to play when they come to my office and I usually offer a few minutes of play time after each session as a reward for doing their best. It has been a challenge getting them to engage after being exposed to the computer for so long during the pandemic, not to mention the impact the virus has had on their lives. That's why I thought that music and games could bring life to my counseling sessions and it did indeed.
Each piece of toy or instrument that I have acquired with my project Strengthening my Mind Though Managing my Emotions, has been received by my student with great joy and gratitude. We have a lot of fun making music and have developed some ways to make it really functional. We take turns with the different instruments, each student take turn to play the instrument of their choice, we get together afterwards and play them like a marching band, we play background music and then we play our instrument following the piece of background music that is played. We have found so many different ways to use the instruments and we love them all.
However, the most sensational thing so far has been the punching bag. Children especially boys, love to hit the bag even with or without a reason to hit and release their emotions. The punching bag is also very helpful when it comes to helping the students calm down and release those feelings. I am completely happy with the outcome of my program and look forward to continuing to help my students manage their feelings with these amazing resources that Donors Choose has made possible for us. Thank you Donors Choose on behalf of each of my students!”

Growing Social-Emotionally Though Reading!
Funded Aug 29, 2021Each of the books received from my project "Growing Socially and Emotionally Through Reading" has been a success for my students. Not only have they increased their love of reading, but through it they learn counseling techniques that help them improve their skills and consequently make progress in achieving their counseling goals. The book "I Am Stronger than Anger" for example refers in its content 4 techniques to manage anger such as deep breathing, count to ten, exercise and write an apology letter or say sorry. my students were fascinated when we read the book. from the youngest students to my 5th graders, they read the book with enthusiasm.
Reading has become a daily practice of interest to each of my students. Together we have found different reading techniques and we have made a sort of reading club. The students have fun taking turns reading, they have acted out some of the scenes in the books, those who cannot read listen enthusiastically and use different types of voices to pretend to be the characters in the story.
I am proud of my library of social and emotional growth for my students and although at the time of writing this report I have not received all the books; I cannot wait to receive the missing ones and I can imagine the reaction of my students when we receive them because they have been asking about it with great enthusiasm. The impact of this library on my counseling practice and on the social and emotional growth of my students has certainly been priceless.”
