The town that our school is located in is a small, rural town of about 23,000 people. Our students do not always have the opportunity to experience or learn about what is happening around them. Many of our students do not have books at home. By providing Scholastic Magazines to my students, they will have the opportunity to read them during our UA (station) time. I am able to differentiate instruction for my students by using the online component. This allows them to 1) access text at their reading level and 2) have stories read to them if they need the additional support. Students will also be able to take their magazines home to share information and have rich discussions with their families, as well as reading with siblings.
