I am the new Site Coordinator for Communities in Schools' first year on our campus. For those of you who don't know, my job with Communities in Schools is to create a system of support for the students, help them individually in areas they struggle in, such as academics or behavior, and provide resources as needed. I am establishing the CIS program on campus and need supplies to serve the kids best. With your help, I will create a space for my students to feel comfortable and welcome and provide them with the support they need. My goal is to create a space to come if they feel overwhelmed, stressed, or need a place to 'cool down. I plan on making a comfortable, relaxing seating area called the Zen Zone, where I want to work with the students on meditation and de-escalation tactics. Social-emotional learning is a big inspiration for my resource room, and I want to focus on self-empowerment through positive affirmations. I am requesting things like a microwave, mini-fridge, snacks, and cup noodles because if any students don't want each lunch, I want to make sure they eat and have access to cold water. The students will benefit from my space on campus because they will have a place where they feel comfortable, can get any missing work done, and bring school supplies, hygiene items, and clothes they might desperately need. After the stress and uncertainty of the past year and a half, many of our students require more basic needs, resources, and support than before, and you can help me create my space and serve the kids.
