Reading is at the heart of everything we do in Literacy. We read to see ourselves more clearly, to learn more about other ways of being, to gain knowledge of the outside world, and to see what good writing looks like. That's no small order -- and a stack of thick books can be intimidating to struggling readers. This magazine subscription will offer students the opportunity to sample new genres and authors at a level that feels comfortable for them. Scope does an excellent job providing short stories at every level in each issue, and they cover a wide variety of high-interest topics to engage students. For me, this is essential to help students who may be learning English or working with learning disabilities foster a love of fiction and reading that will serve them for the rest of their lives. The digital side of this magazine also offers students a chance to access reading and learning materials at home, which is essential given the potential shifts into virtual learning.
