  • Cooking in K- Part 2: Let's Start!

    Funded May 17, 2024

Our K/1 substantially separate special education classroom for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other Developmental Disabilities thanks you! With your help, we continue to do weekly cooking lessons to practice life skills along with aspects of math and science. Tying lessons to a cooking lesson keeps students engaged and provides hands on, multisensory learning.

Cooking is a life skill necessary for all students to learn, and allows for students to learn safety awareness in the kitchen. Students with Autism also commonly have difficulty trying new foods, and this has allowed them to try new items to see if they like it.

Thank you for your generosity and consideration donating to our class.”

    Ms. Yakavonis

  • Cooking in K!

    Funded Apr 17, 2024

Our classroom of 12 special education students thanks you! Your help provided all the materials necessary to practice the life skill of cooking. My students do cooking lessons every Friday. Currently, we do no bake cooking recipes. We need access to a toaster oven to complete various cooking lessons. This will not only teach students how to make different cooking items, but will allow them to try new foods and practice safety awareness. Overall, cooking on Fridays is a fan favorite for teachers and students alike. You made our cooking Fridays more fun! Thank you for your kindness!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Yakavonis

  • Daily Craft Supplies

    Funded Apr 22, 2024

Thank you so much for your donation. Thanks to your help, my students can continue to complete arts and crafts daily to keep them engaged and motivated with the topic. We complete a letter of the week craft daily, along with numerous mathematics and social skills crafts. These crafts help our students learn more about each academic concept in a fun, engaging way. It also helps increase their fine motor ability through cutting, tracing, and writing. All of these concepts are addressed on each students IEP as well. Our supplies are now fully stocked! Your kindness help to keep the fun and engaging lessons coming!”

  • Sharing is Caring

    Funded Apr 22, 2024

Thank you so much for choosing to donate items to our classroom. I teach a k and 1 classroom for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental delays. They need direct teaching and instruction with learning how to play with others, share toys, and appropriate toy play. Our classroom has daily choice time, where these items are used as a part of our routine.

Sharing is caring, and that has been shown in our room. Our students are building their language, identifying my turn vs your turn, and increasing their overall sharing ability.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Yakavonis

  • Sensory Table

    Funded May 3, 2022

Thank you for your kindness and generosity. Due to your donation, I was able to provide my students with numerous sensory activities and strategies to use while in the classroom. My students have Autism Spectrum Disorder, making it necessary to provide sensory activities daily. They are used to help teach new concepts and as coping strategies for self regulation.

Some of my favorite lessons included the materials you kindly donated towards. We did a space week, where we used our space sensory bins to practice vocabulary to increase language. Additionally, we used these materials for our first annual sensory field day. During sensory field day, the four Autism Spectrum Disorder classrooms (grades K-5) joined together for a fun filled day of sensory input. It was a blast, all thanks to your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Yakavonis

These multi-sensory activities will benefit my students with autism to help keep them engaged and involved with their learning while in the classroom. The current materials we have are outdated, making it necessary to provide new supports for my students. These activities target all areas of academics, along with improving fine motor ability. Overall, through getting access to materials, student performance will increase, along with overall enjoyment during the learning process.
