P.E. is more than just gym class from the 60's. We consider PE the most important class our students take. We teach reading, math, engineering, socialization, communication, problem solving, as well as being fit for life and nutrition. We get oxygen to the brains so they can stay focused, prevent behavior issues, and more. Basketball is a favorite activity and we don't have many good balls left. We use basketballs for various activities, to teach hand eye coordination, and team work. Many of the kids were bored with our track program and having to walk or run circles. I changed all that when I gave the students basketballs to dribble on track days and added cones and various obstacles. They are multitasking and still reaching their goals of raising their heart rates while having fun. Our P.E. program is in desperate need of new equipment. Most of the equipment was purchased 26 years ago when the school was built. The lessons are often designed that students have to share equipment but it is getting to the point that it is one ball for a group of six. Poly spots are used daily for activities, scoring points, knowing where to sit and more. Thank you advance for your generosity.
