Scholastic math magazines show students how they will use math in the real world. Math is the language of science; but, it is often tricky for students to link what they are learning in math to how they will use it in science or in the real world. By reading vetted news articles, students will see examples of they could use their math knowledge in their future occupations. For example, they might see how finding the area of various shapes relates to architecture and building design by reading one of the interviews in the math news magazine. Hopefully, the latest math news will motivate many of my students to consider pursuing STEM careers one day.
