My students will use these materials in order to first learn the science behind persistence of vision. They will then use this knowledge to persevere through mathematical problem solving to determine the rate of which the turntable moves and the strobe light flashes in order to create the perfect combination for a 3D zeotrope (You can Google ‘3D zeotrope’ and watch the videos to gain an understanding of what a final product could look like). The next step will be to create a story to be told through imagery that displays their understanding of certain topics. For instance, they can exhibit their understanding of certain elements of the American Revolution or create imagery of certain elements in a lit. study. They will create the pieces of the zoetrope with a team through the use of 3D printers, a laser cutter, clay...the sky is the limit. Finally they will present their projects to an authentic audience on campus. This project encompasses so many pieces of learning from multiple content areas, team and collaborative work, problem solving skills, a growth mindset, and so much more.
