Most young people enjoy the ability to move about the classroom and learn in various ways. I want to provide the opportunity for students to have choice in where they learn. Research states that the ability to move around will help my students be more alert and focused. Flexible seating will allow my students to sit, wobble, lean and stand. Flexible seating will help create a more comfortable environment that will meet the needs of all of my students. Flexible seating will also increase motivation and level of engagement to higher academic performance in my classroom. Flexible seating and movement will also crease oxygen inflow to the brain, increase blood flow, improve posture and core strength. So flexible seating options will give students the sensory input they need, specifically students with ADHD, and/or Autism. I want each one of my students to be able to choose they type of seating that works best for their learning style. If my students are given the power of CHOICE, they will be more enthusiastic and actively engaged while learning in my classroom.
