  • SEL and CCR at Odyssey!

    I just wanted to thank you again for supplying my project. I have already started implementing my new tools in the classroom, one on one with students and in small group settings.

    A few of the books I have been able to add into my tier 1 curriculum. The brick based counseling book has been awesome to have guided one on one with students working on emotional management, mindfulness and more.

    The Beat That game has been incorporated into our school wide PBIS program and the kids have gone wild over the chance to work towards that reward, and all the stem based items I am looking forward to using.”

    My students have absolutely loved the new flexible seating and additional resources. Every time they come in and see the new calm corner with the "awesome" purple chairs, they just sink in and start talking. The impact that this has is helping our students feel more comfortable in sharing their feelings. Having students feel comfortable to talk about their feelings helps me to connect families to needed resources, and to help students make progress in areas such as executive functioning, goal setting and self management, which in turn improves their relationship towards school.”

The students at my school have a hard time problem solving conflict, and managing their stress. The tools I have requested will help me help our students and families in multiple ways. The chairs, fidgets and mindfulness cards will help to facilitate a safe space for students to take a moment and process their feelings so that we can problem solve in solution focused based way. The books are going to help my K-3rd grade students by having great literature to show examples of positive behaviors that we can then discuss as a class. Every month I have the opportunity to teach all of my students, but the highest requested lessons are on Conflict Resolution and Mindfulness for this year, and I am lacking relevant literature currently. I already have lessons developed to go along with the books - so if you would like a preview please send me a question. I am also really excited for some of the chair bands and other tools that can help with one on one intervention. Some students need additional resources at school, or check in check out systems and I am so excited for the opportunity to facilitate more meaningful interventions.
