Financial Literacy: Make It Make Cents (Sense)
Funded Jan 20, 2023Thank you for contributing to our Financial Literacy group project. Because of your contributions, each scholar received a t-shirt (bearing our school name and group title) along with a gold outlined certificate to highlight their participation. In addition to wearing the t-shirts on our field trips, the group culminated the end of the year by participating in a ceremony for members only(see photo). The group discussed things that they learned throughout the course of our lessons, as well as what we could do to make next year better.
Our students were extremely excited and proud when receiving their t-shirts, as well as their certificates. They wore them around the school and asked if pictures could be sent to their parents. The students' expressions revealed that they felt a sense of pride.
The school year has ended, but we are currently making plans for the upcoming school year. Many of our students were 7th graders, so we are hopeful that we will have them again next year as part of our club. A local bank has agreed to come in and provide financial literacy sessions with the members of our group. Finally, we have discussed having a Financial Literacy fair, where our students take the lead and serve as facilitators for the 6th and 7th graders. Thanks again for everything!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Shelby

Funded Sep 23, 2021Thank you for funding our 3Cs project. As stated in our narrative, college and career readiness is more than just a class or "touch and go" conversation. College and career instruction should be an ongoing activity where students are exposed to information daily.
Initially, we placed the pennants on a bulletin board in the main hallway. This provided more vibrant coloring, while also giving students a glimpse into the world of unbeknownst HBCUs. We turned the bulletin board into an open discussion by providing the students with information during school announcements. Students were furthered challenged to take a Google quiz on the information that they learned about. Prizes were given for the first twenty students that answered all of the questions correctly. The wristbands were also given out as incentives for this project. Winners were allowed to take pictures with the college pennant that they wanted to know more about.
Thanks for your assistance with this project! We hope to expand our students' exposure to more colleges for years to come. This project has sparked inquiry and conversation just as it was intended to do.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Shelby
