Classroom libraries are a place where students can “leave” their class, their home, their City, and travel the World. Creating a safe, comfortable space in my classroom where students can relax with a good book and let their imaginations run wild is so important. The best way to increase reading ability is for students to have access to books they enjoy and READ as often as possible. With your donation, I’ll be able to create a print-rich, comfortable space for my second graders to become avid readers and life-long learners. This will include flexible seating options, book bins, folders, and writing resources. These resources will help students be active, engaged readers and allow them to have a creative space within our classroom. In addition to creating a reading environment, I'd love for my students to have access to hands-on math materials. Your donation will help purchase math manipulatives including base ten blocks, whiteboards and markers, rulers, dice, counters, and connecting cubes. These materials will help make abstract ideas more concrete and lift math out of a textbook or workbook. Manipulatives build students' confidence by giving them a way to test and confirm their reasoning and are useful tools for solving problems.
