At least once a day, my students questions me about when we will acquire more books for our classroom library. I constantly let them know that I will try and bring new and exciting titles into our classroom library- because I am thrilled these middle school individuals want to read. I also have so many students who request graphic novels- a new and exciting way to encourage students to read! While I would love to independently fill my library with thousands of awesome books, I must be realistic! Donating to this project will not only encourage my students to continue reading, but we will finally incorporate the highly requested activity of classroom book clubs! There is so much research out there that urges the use of book clubs in educational settings. Students, in smaller groups, will work on independent and verbal reading skills, reading comprehension, and making real world connections to literature. What a joy it is to find your first favorite book, relate to a character's trials, and finally feel seen by an author! Reading also is a skill that carries over to just about every other subject and real life experience. My students enjoy our reading time, and for that I feel responsible to kindle this valuable interest. “A book is a gift you can open again and again.” -Garrison Keillor
