Giving Ell Students the Gift of Language
Funded Aug 14, 2024Thank you for your generosity! My students love practicing the English language with the headphones you provided! Many of them have made tremendous progress already, and I cannot wait to see how fluent they are by the end of the year.
We have a program that teaches students how to listen and speak in English. Having access to this program builds students English vocabulary and grammatical skills. Some students have been learning colors, and the question/response pattern, while others are learning adjectives, articles, prepositions, and more!

This classroom project was brought to life by The Gates Foundation and 6 other donors.Let's Get Moving
Funded Aug 29, 2021My students and I were greatly touched by your generosity. Last school year was very challenging for many reasons due to hybrid learning and the pandemic. The supplies that you provided for our Get Moving project has impacted the students socially, mentally, academically, and physically. You have helped them have a more successful school year.
The equipment came in slowly and it was great watching the students' anticipation and joy as they saw everything that had been donated. Your generosity purchased basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, jump ropes, scooters, and more! We were able to get one scooter for each classroom. This provided students with options of which activity they would like to participate in at recess, allowed them to make new friends, and gave them opportunities to practice sharing, problem solving, athletic ability, following rules, and allowed them to create some games of their own.
Some students chose to play football. It is always interesting to see them split up into teams, get better at understanding the rules of the game and practicing good sportsmanship. They have improved on throwing, catching, and running skills. The teachers used to have to lead the games, or help get them started, but now students understand that they are only allowed to play touch football and do a great job of dividing into teams on their own. When a team loses, students are disappointed but have practiced how to cope with disappointment in a positive or productive manner and realize that they can try again a different day. Perseverance is an amazing, lifelong skill!
The scooters were a hot commodity as well. The scooters have helped students improve their motor skills, explore science concepts, and help them get around pretty quickly. Learning how to share these took some time. There was some frustration and occasional tears when a student did not get a turn during recess. As time went by, students realized that their turn would come another day. It is wonderful to see that there are now seldom arguments about whose turn it is and when the students are able to share on their own without teacher intervention.
Again, we would like to thank you for all you have done. I hope you realize the impact that you have made and how much it is appreciated by the students and teachers.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Goldrick
