Flexible seating replaces boring old chairs with alternatives that increase students' focus and motivation. By allowing students to choose where they want to sit and what they want to sit on, it encourages automaticity and independence. Students learn responsibility and accountability. A boost in engagement which leads to a higher quality of work! When students are able to make a choice about their seating, they are able to advocate for themselves. Students will be able to determine which space in the classroom is most beneficial for them. Flexible seating provides students with the opportunity to set themselves up for success in their work. Which would you be more likely to choose? Will it be a bean bag chair, yoga mat, or maybe an exercise ball? I think that we can all agree that a school chair would not be our first choice!
