My school is a Title 1 school with about 68% of our students on free and reduced lunch. Asking them to buy all these supplies is just out of the question. Math is a struggle for so many of them and I try to keep them engaged by doing hands-on projects that stimulate their imagination and at the same time promotes critical thinking skills. Colorful papers, index cards for notes, markers and colored pencils go a long way in making math just a little more interesting to them. The students take great pride in their work, especially when they can make it look better with color. It is important to me to be able to supply these extra things to them so that they can work on projects that are stimulating and engaging.
