If our project is funded: Your generous donations will help my students explore how investing money can bring about income, profits, and losses that can lead to choices for wants and needs. It will also help them understand the life cycle of a chicken and the cost to invest in hatching chickens. This project will also teach my students that patience is involved when you invest money as well as patience in waiting for chickens to hatch. Key economic terms will be introduced such as opportunity, cost, investment, as well as science vocabulary related to the life cycle of a chicken. My students will be given a pretend budget while learning about the life cycle of a chicken. Together they will learn about items they need to help the eggs hatch and cost to keep the chicken. They will subtract the preplanned cost of the items they will need from their budget. They will decide as to whether they want to invest their funds. Students will record in journals their daily observations of chicken hatching. Following, students will build a miniature chicken coop for their hatched chicken.
