"Where should I put this book? Where does this folder go? Where do I put my sight words?" Students want to be independent and self-sufficient. They enjoy being able to get out and put away materials on their own. My kindergarten students exude excitement and cannot wait to get started each day! They enter the classroom eager and ready to learn, approaching our activities with passion. This enthusiastic bunch is a very diverse group of inquisitive, active four-, five- and six-year-olds. My students are inquisitive, active five-year-olds. For most, this is their first time in a full day school setting. I want to create a safe, welcoming, and invigorating environment in which they will be inspired, motivated, and eager to learn. They sit at tables, which are important for collaboration and socialization but lack individual storage for materials. Individual storage will be imperative during this pandemic. The seat sacks will be used throughout the day during Language Arts Block, Quiet Time, and Writing time. The children will be able to store all their writing folders and journals in one place and have ready access to their writing pieces. The seat sacks will especially facilitate their independent writing during our Language Arts Block, enabling me to work with small groups of students. This organization will allow the students to access the materials in an efficient and safe manner while simultaneously promoting their independence. This project will benefit my students in several ways; it will engage them in the writing process, allow them to work independently on writing, and, most importantly, keep them safe by providing them a safe space to store their own materials.
