Students come up to the carpet on a daily basis for things like read alouds, shared reading and writing projects, math lessons, etc. Much of what I use are on large chart paper, big books, etc that need a spot to hang or write on. I have always used an easel with students on the carpet because it allows me to sit with the students and teach rather than stand at the board. I'm able to be more interactive with my students this way. Students can come up to the easel to write, read, complete math problems, etc. Our actual dry/erase boards are too tall for students to reach much of the space. The cool thing about this easel is that it's double-sided, and I can use that for a Word Work center in my classroom. Students will manipulate magnetic letters to build words, write sentences, and more. They can play teacher with other students by playing word games together, taking turns being the leader. The bins underneath are perfect for storing materials for the Word Work center, puppets that I use during carpet time, dry erase boards and markers, etc. It will be a central piece of equipment used all day by myself and students.
