Kindergarten expectations are much more demanding than what they used to be. The expectation is that the kids leave the year fully able to read and write before entering 1st grade. The students I serve typically do not attend preschool, so when they arrive at my door we start right away with letter recognition and learning to write their names. These materials will help students learn in a fun way. Students will love to stamp their own name in playdough. They will also enjoy building their name with magnetic letters. They can then utilize the same materials later in the year once they have sight word recognition to stamp and build words. I have discovered over the years that students develop a deeper understanding of content when they are enjoying themselves in the classroom and having fun manipulating materials.
