My name is Ms. Lexi Douglas, and I am a first year Health and Physical Education Teacher at Foose Elementary school. I teach students in kindergarten through fourth grade all about how to take care of their health, and grow up to be happy and healthy adults! Many of the students that I serve in the Harrisburg School District have additional barriers and challenges. These challenges include poverty, housing insecurities, and community violence. My school is surrounded by 4 government housing communities, where many of my students live. Despite these challenges, I want to give my students a strong foundation of how to take care of themselves. I teach students about their physical health, mental health and social health in my wellness education class. I recently started teaching my students about their heart. We are practicing jump roping as a way to keep our heart healthy. All of my students have set a goal for how many times they want to be able to jump rope by the end of the year. Many of my students are SO motivated and have asked me for a jump rope that they can take home to practice with. Unfortunately, I do not have enough jump ropes to give each of my students. My goal is to raise enough funds for each student to have their own jump rope, that they can take home and keep. If at all possible please consider donating to my students. This could impact their outlook on physical activity, and inspire them to LOVE moving their bodies and taking care of their health. My students are working towards their goals and have showed me how dedicated they are to learning about their health!
