All donors will be reflected in our classroom for this year and years to come on our helping hands bulletin board to remind students of our responsibility to give back and pay it forward. I also teach students to be mindful of doing their part by preserving our environment and not wasting resources. In my grade 1 classroom, we will use our whiteboards daily to complete tasks and reduce the use of paper. At the beginning of the year, we will practice printing our names and letters using proper letter formation as well as solving math problems. Students will use whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards will allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. The use of anchor charts will be a habitual practice in my classroom, for all subjects. They are the perfect way to introduce a new concept to students and a great reminder of skills that have already been taught. Anchor charts and Post-Its build a culture of literacy in the classroom, as teachers and students make thinking visible by recording content, strategies, processes, cues, and guidelines during the learning process. By donating to our project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement. Audrey Hephurn once stated, “As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands-one for helping yourself, the other for helping others”. It is my mission to enlighten my students about their helping hands before they grow older, for I believe that the best time to give back is always now!
