Building College Culture
Funded Sep 26, 2023Hooray! Just this week two of my senior students came bursting through the classroom door to share their college acceptance letters! We read them aloud to the class, screamed with joy, and happy danced. I did not know their top pick, but was happy to find out that both of their colleges of choice were proudly displayed on the wall this whole time! One of the students even confessed to me that she would look at it each class period to remind her of why she was working so hard.
This is what it's all about- supporting students in their success and next step plans in life. Thank you for helping to make this project a reality. It will serve to inspire students for years to come!”

Funded Nov 23, 2022Sorry for the delay! The Genders, Sexualities, and Allies club had an extremely successful first year at our school. 6th, 7th, and 8th graders met together weekly for fun, sharing, and support. Our GSA partnered with the school's new Wellness Center and college student interns, as well as The Center, our local LGBTQ+ community center. Some of our proudest moments were having queer leaders in the community visit as guest speakers, giving hope and love to students. We also came together to make the Wellness Center an ally and Safe Space. It has a year of memories, friendship, and PRIDE!”

Craft Club
Funded Oct 11, 2022Sorry for the delay! It was quite an adventure this year with Craft Club. Each week they took on something new. They learned embroidery, beading, and how to use a hot glue gun! We made posters to highlight school events and to celebrate cultural months. One of our proudest events was when they create an ofrenda for our whole school to celebrate the Day of the Dead with beautiful tissue paper flowers, paintings and sketches of loved ones that have passed. Painting became one of the Craft Club's favorite activities. The year was a great success and soo much fun!”

Role Model Project
Funded Sep 10, 2022Finishing up the school year with a project centered around an inspiring hero or role model was HUGE in ending our year with enthusiasm and hope. Student participation was up as they had opportunities to make choices about who they would research and they steered their own learning each day.
Some of the highlights were writing a "recipe" for our heroes, a postcard from a place they lived or traveled during their lifetime, a movie poster with their own casting choices, and a soundtrack of the role model's life.
You can imagine how having access to so many diverse names and examples of inspiring people made this project possible. Thank you!”

Restock the Care Cart
Funded Aug 9, 2022The Care Cart is restocked and already helping students get personal supplies and their basic care needs met- all thanks to you! Students come to my classroom before school or even during class to receive personal items they can't always get from home due to their family's larger needs and obstacles. Everyone deserves access to feminine needs and dental maintenance and you're making it possible! The Care Cart now offers snacks for students after school or before if they come in hungry or won't be able to get something from home after the school day. This project is making a difference in our community.”

Funded Mar 27, 2022This project has helped make bulletin boards, interactive anchor charts in the class, and create a warm and inviting atmosphere in the classroom where students' creativity and learning really shine. I've been able to prepare even more great lessons including graphic organizers, thinking maps, and to be more project based in my planning. Supporting my ESL students is always a priority but I don't always have the time or resources to make and adapt lessons. With the resources received from your donation, I was also able to find bilingual supplemental materials to engage this population too!”

Funded Mar 27, 2022The new Care Cart was such a help to students! We built it together and I had one excited student even organize things how she thought it would be most helpful to others. Several female students came up to me personally and thanked me for having pads and tampons in the classroom so they wouldn't have to take the embarrassing walk to the nurse's office. The deodorant and toothbrushes were especially helpful to students with high need at home and they went fast! Your donation extended beyond my classroom as students spread the word that resources were available in my classroom and many students even brought their friends that needed supplies. Our deepest thanks!”

Bringing Books Back!
Funded Nov 17, 2021Wow! I am overwhelmed with gratitude! My students are in such need of great books and this addition to our classroom library was exactly what they needed to get back into reading and excited about learning! These books were in their hands immediately and many of them were specifically requested by students themselves. They were so excited to get these exciting titles.
Recently we had spring break here in our district and nearly all of these books went home with excited readers. The culture of reading and excitement in my classroom has increased so much this year because we have fresh and exciting books on the shelf and available to them.”

Funded Sep 23, 2021Our SAFE SPACE has been off to a great start! We've been meeting each Monday during lunch to check in, talk, play games, read, share art, and encourage each other on the hard days.
Some of the biggest surprises of this project have been first, how helpful the LGBTQ flags have been! They are really helping students see classrooms around campus as "Safe Spaces" and positive community or allies for LGBTQ students.
Additionally, the rainbow heart pins and flags spread joy and love all throughout our campus. Students have put them on their backpacks, lanyards, and even jackets to share their PRIDE or that they are an ally. It has been HUGE to be seen and supported for many.
Finally, of course the addition of an LGBTQ section in the classroom library cannot be left out. Many LGBTQ students have said, "Finally!" and picked up books that tell stories of LGBTQ joy and acceptance. Other students have picked up books just to learn more about LGBTQ lives- and that too is important!
Our middle schoolers here are making so much positive change and growth due to your donation!”
