  • Class Supply Refresh!

    Funded Feb 19, 2025

¡Muchas gracias! Thank you for your consideration and generosity! My students and I are grateful to you! Students will be using these markers and colored pencils to complete many projects this year and likely future years as well. Students are also going to be happy to have a new electric pencil sharpener as our current sharpener is not working well. Thank you for making a difference in our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

  • Developing Spanish Literacy!

    Funded Dec 13, 2022

Thank you for your contributions to my classroom library. My students and I were so excited to receive the many books in Spanish for our classroom library. I was able to purchase a wide range of books to meet my students reading levels and interests. Finding books that students are interested in reading is an important step in developing bilingual readers! I appreciate your help in growing my classroom library so that each student can find a book to connect with! This donation will continue to benefit students years to come!”

  • Art Projects and Class Supplies for Spanish Class!

    Funded Sep 11, 2023

Thank you friends, family, and community donors for your contributions to my classroom this last year. Using the art supplies provided through the Donors Choose grant I was able to facilitate two cultural projects with my students. My 7th graders read a book in Spanish about the butterfly migration and Dia de Muertos in Mexico. During the unit students used the clay that was donated to create calaveras. Students then described their calavera and the significance of the holiday in writing. Also, at the end of the year, my 6th grade students learned about the Mexican Folk Art of Alebrijes and created their own using clay. Students practiced their color and body party vocabulary in Spanish to describe the mythical creature they created.

Many of the supplies I was able to get helped enrich my teaching and provide my students with a fun and engaging experience in their Spanish class. Thank you for making this possible!”

  • Kleenex and Basic Classroom Supplies for SRA. G-S

    Funded Aug 8, 2022

Thank you for your support in providing Kleenex, cleaning supplies, snacks, and art supplies for my students. We contine to use the clorox wipes to disinfect desks and other student areas. I am happy to be able to provide students with soft tissues and yummy snacks. I usually have several students a week ask for a snack because they missed a meal and are hungry. Being able to have a snack stash for them makes it so they can get some relief and focus on their learning.

Thank you again for your donation!”

  • Art supplies and Posters for a new Bilingual Classroom

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Your donations have helped me get a great start to the year. They arrived just in time for me to make a welcoming space of my classroom. I made group supply bags filled the markers donated and other useful supplies. Posters are up on the walls providing encouragement and useful information in Spanish. Students have also used the scrabble and bananagrams games to use their Spanish and expand their vocabulary. I am so grateful to be able to provide students with the necessary materials to engage with their learning!”

  • Provide Audio for the Spanish and Dual Language Classroom

    Funded Dec 27, 2021

Thank you for your donation to my classroom. With your support I was able to fund speakers and a class set of headphones for my students. These items have been incredibly useful in the last few months.

Beginning in January, my 8th grade students began their poetry project collaboration with a local poet. Because of the Covid 19 protocols and rise of the Omicron variant, the poet was not able to visit our class in person at that time. We held a virtual visit instead, and the speakers allowed me to project the poets voice loud enough for all students to hear and engage with the lesson. This was a nice upgrade from the projector speakers we had been using.

The next process in the poetry process had students working with vocal coaches to practice reading their poems aloud. Students did whole class activities and met with the coaches virtually in a small group. This activity was made possible by being able to have a class set of headphones so that students could join a small group with the vocal coaches.

Finally, students recording their poems with audio engineers. This too had to be virtual, so students utilized their laptops and the headphones purchased with your donation.

The speakers and headphones have also been useful for my other classes. My Spanish 1 students use them when they are studying flashcards on Quizlet and my 7th grade dual language students use them to listen to audio reading of texts. I have used the speakers to play documentaries in my social Studies classes, educational videos in Spanish 1, and even occasionally music to accompany us during work-time.

Both the speakers and headphones will get much use in the coming years!

Thank you for supporting me and my students in getting these resources. These items made the poetry project possible during this unprecedented time. I am so grateful to have the support of my friends, family and community in educating my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garcia-Stokes

  • Paint Supplies for Dual Language Classroom

    Funded Aug 22, 2021

My students were able to start off the year with a fun and engaging identity project in which students were able to be creative with the art supplies you all helped provide.

My 8th grade dual language students wrote about their names and the significance of their names. Then they used the paint materials to create a poster of their name to decorate our room. My 7th grade dual language students wrote a Biopoem about themselves and used the paint supplies to decorate their poem. Those poems also adorn the walls of my classroom. Lastly, my Spanish 1 students wrote sentences in Spanish telling me about their name, ethnicity, languages spoken, and religion. They also used to art supplies to decorate their posters.

The art project was an excellent introductory mini-project for students to adjust to re-entering school. It also provided students an opportunity to share who they are with their teacher. I learned a lot about each of my students from reading their work. My classroom is also decorated with their creative expressions.

Thank you for your support of my students! It was meaningful and impactful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Garcia-Stokes

After a year of primarily learning online, I would like to give my students more opportunities to engage off the screen in my classroom. This year, I plan to start off the year by building community and getting to know my students. In all of my classes, students will share about who they are and what they believe in during the first couple of weeks of school. This identity work is important for my students to learn about themselves, each other, and for me to learn about them. I will launch a short writing assignment in which students share about the origin of their name, elements of their identity, and then create a poster with their name and short essay to display in the classroom for the year. My dual language students will write the short essay in Spanish and my Spanish 1 students will use sentence starters to complete their poster. All students will have an opportunity to be creative and engage with the Spanish language during the first weeks of school. Additionally, students will be able to learn about their peers and also see their name prominently in the classroom. My hope is that this elicits a sense of belonging in my classroom. In order to fulfill this project, I need to update my paint supplies in my classroom. The paint, brushes, and storage materials are needed to help this project come true. Thank you for your support of my students and our classroom community!
