Hi there! Thanks for visiting my donors choose. My students will call me Ms. George, but you can know me as Jess. Two years ago, I committed to serve as a Woodrow Wilson Teaching Fellow. Through my fellowship, I will spend three years teaching STEM in Title-1 secondary schools across Philadelphia. This fall will mark my second year teaching. But in many ways, it will feel like my first – as I began my career completely virtually. This project is a means to fund my promise to my community school, Tilden Middle School. Our school faces many challenges as 100% of my students come from families who participate in state and/or federal public assistance programs. Though many of my supplies don't directly support science education, these items will undoubtably support my ability to create a positive classroom culture which will carry me throughout the year. I appreciate any support you are willing to provide! Thank you :) My choice to teach was driven by a growing awareness of the stark inequities in the public education system. To support my vision for equity in education, I have completed a Masters in STEM Education at Penn, am enrolled in a Project Based Learning program, and contribute to OpenSciEd Equity Cohort that is grounded within Next Generation Science Standard. I envision a future in which underrepresented Black, LatinX, and BIPOC populations do not face any barriers in accessing STEM education. By contributing to this project, you are helping bring this vision to life.
