I teach at a lower-income school where many of the kids do not have a lot of books at home, and many are below grade level in their reading skills. In order to develop a love of reading, I provide a lending library with great books that kids love. This makes it much easier for students to get in the 15 to 20 minutes of reading that they need every night. Over 60% of my students are homeless, in foster-care, or in government housing, and providing access to these great books they can borrow and read at home will go a long way to improving their reading levels.
