  • Glowing Mathletes

    Funded Mar 9, 2023

    Thank you again for your generous donation to my project, "Glowing Mathletes." The purpose of this project was to get students excited about the upcoming state assessment. Reviewing all Math standards can be overwhelming for students so this project was to encourage students to persevere and have a ton of fun doing so. For two weeks, I transformed my classroom to accommodate our Glow Math review. I decorated the class with streamers and balloons that glowed in the dark. I used black lights and covered all the windows so that students could use highlighters and glow lights to show their work. When students showed mastery of concepts, they earned glow bracelets and glow tattooes for their success! All of this wouldn't be possible without people like you who support educators and students.   • Mathlete of the Month

    Your generous donations have given my mathletes the confidence in math! Every time a mathlete earns their Mathlete of the Month t-shirt, they beam with pride. The materials I have received with your generous donations have allowed me to print the word, "Mathlete" on t-shirts. Every month, a hard-working student in my math class is chosen as the "Mathlete of the Month." Expectations on how to earn this special award is explained to students so they know what the success criteria is to earn the award.

    Students are required to wear uniforms every day, but if they earn the Mathlete t-shirt, they get to wear their t-shirts in place of the uniform whenever they want. They wear the t-shirt with pride and confidence. The t-shirt symbolizes a huge accomplishment in math, a subject that many students find difficult to master. It encourages students to work towards earning the coveted Mathlete shirt! I've seen recipients of the t-shirt try to help others earn the shirt by helping them solve problems and giving them feedback on how to improve in math!

  • We Speak Like Mathletes!

    I wanted to update you on how your generous donation has impacted my students. As a teacher, having any kind of technology that will help collect student data, track student progress, and promote academic discourse is so helpful! I have been able to use the Microsoft Surface Pro to do all three things!

    Academic discourse in Math is so important. During these peer conversations, students can question each other to further explain and/or justify their answers. It allows students an opportunity to discuss misconceptions, understand concepts, practice using vocabulary, and apply concepts to real-world problems.

    I have been able to use the Surface Pro to facilitate discussions, keep track of student contributions in small group discussions, and document the great things students are saying so that I can then provide actionable feedback. Thank you for gifting me this piece of technology!”
